West LA UMC hosted a trip to Manzanar Internment Camp on March 26-27, 2022. Together participants toured the new exhibits, met with rangers, and learned from persons who were interned. The trip was designed for adults, youth, and children of all ages and physical abilities to enjoy.
This video is a nice introduction to Manzanar – How & why did internment happen? Manzanar’s desolate, spectacular physical location, and what is available to see.
Three Views of Manzanar – Ansel Adams, Dorothea Lange and Toyo Miyatake makes the big topic of “human resilience in the face of injustice” relatable through wonderfully intimate and fascinating little details of how normal people lived under abnormal conditions.
Manzanar National Park Historic Site YouTube Channel has a collection of oral histories and documentaries
Rangers Rose and Sarah, featured in the videos, were part of the core staff planning our visit.
