What can I expect when I arrive for worship?
You will receive a warm welcome at the Sanctuary door by the ushers who will hand you a worship bulletin and answer any questions that you may have. The ushers can guide you to restrooms, Sunday School classrooms, the Nursery, and Social Hall (for fellowship time following worship). The bulletin will guide you through the worship service, along with PowerPoint slides on a large screen.
Family worship is held on the first Sunday of each month, meaning that children and youth remain in worship with their families and friends. Holy Communion is served on the first Sunday. On other Sundays during the month, children and youth are excused to Sunday School following the Children’s Message. West LA UMC’s worships services offer a nice combination of traditional hymns and contemporary praise music. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and inclusive of all people.
Where do I take my child for Sunday School?
Sunday School is the perfect place and time for children to learn about God, the life of Jesus, and important lessons in the Bible. Sunday School classrooms are located near the Sanctuary in the Sunday School wing. Children Age 3-Pre-K meet in Room 1; Kindergarten-3rd Grade meet in Room 3; children in 4-8th Grades meet in Room 2; and youth in Grades 9-12 meet in the Youth Room on the second floor.
Is childcare provided during worship?
West LA UMC welcomes families of all ages, shapes, and sizes. During worship, parents with infants and toddlers are invited to sit in the sanctuary or enjoy the Church Nursery, located adjacent to the Sanctuary. In the Nursery, parents can easily see and listen to the worship service while their toddlers enjoy lots of fun toys and books. Changing tables can be found in the Nursery, and in the first floor women’s and men’s restrooms.
Can I join a Bible Study?
Absolutely! On-going Bible Studies are held throughout the week and new members are welcome. Several short-term Bible Studies and Reading Groups are held throughout the year. Whether you participate in an on-going study or a short-term group, you will meet wonderful people, discuss interesting topics, and grow in faith and knowledge.

What is the policy for pets in church?
Everyone loves pets, especially children! However, some people are allergic to pets and some of our frailer members risk falls due to tripping over pet leashes. Therefore, the Trustee’s policies state that pets are not to be brought to the church except for certified service dogs. Thank you for your kind consideration in following this policy.
